The K4K (Kuwait for Kenya) project was sparked by the painful sights of the streets of Mombasa through the eyes of Kuwaiti youth. Children of five sniffed glue and gasoline as an alternative to food.
HIV/AIDS is very prevalent and spreads uncontrollably among the youth, not to mention the millions of children born positive to it. Poverty is everywhere in Mombasa, which means furthering one’s education or career is not always possible. The flickering light of hope comes in the form of MYCC (Mombassa Youth Counseling Center) and K4K.
K4K is a permanent divisional project under the K4W (Kuwait for the World) initiative that LoYAC wishes to develop in the future so as to provide tangible and intangible aids to such centers as MYCC.
LoYAC is a non-profit organization working towards the overall development of the youth; its mission states “We strive to provide the youth with unique opportunities to help them evolve into highly effective young leaders”.
The project launched in 2006 by Nadia AlGhadiri and has had many successes over the last 3 years. Volunteers from Kuwait traveled to Kenya to help support MYCC and perform various community projects such as teaching in schools, building classrooms, donating books and computers.
